One of the tasks that users most often repeated especially when sending or receiving electronic mail, is having to compress or decompress a file to attach it to email, or view the contents of the mail we have sent. This short tutorial aims to show how to handle one of the most widely used compressors like WinRar.

The advantage of compressing files is that when sending or receiving information that is sent or received is much lower so the time spent sending or receiving considerably diminished.

Many users asked for that is "compress" a file or files, the best explanation we give is not very technical but clear. Imagine for a moment that we have a file called ficherito.txt which it is stored in the following information:

The process of file compression is to save the other, so that the file content is the same but the space occupied by this information may be half or less. Note that many files can not be compressed or its compression ratio is very small, so sometimes it is not worth pressing them, as for instance a jpg image that are already compressed. Well after that explanation once you've passed our file compression results of its content might be:

Looking before compressing the file has 13 characters, while a compressed file occupy only 6 characters, so that its compression ratio would be greater than 50%. Everything an achievement, indeed!. Obviously this explanation is not reality as it is used to compress very sophisticated mathematical algorithms.

1o. Step

Download and install the program WinRar

Well, first and logically in order to compress or decompress a file we downloaded from the Internet or get some form, the program helps us for this purpose. The compressor that we use is called WinRar which can be obtained via the following:

Clicking on the link to access the page official program, this page is a section called Downloads, in the top of the page, click on this section so that access to the download section. Andalusia display the download section we are shown very clearly in a section called Recommended download, which shows the operating system you have, the language and download the program that we recommend in this case is wrar371es.exe, which is version 3.71 version of the program in Spanish ( "es"). In the next image you can see as shown in this section:

Now it has to click on the link to download the software, in this particular case is wrar371es.exe on the link, click on this link to ask us if we want to download the program and whether to save or open the program, in our case we choose to save and whether to save wherever you want the program once downloaded.

Once the download has to install the program to do this we must go to the folder where you downloaded the program and perform a double click on the icon of the same, in our case would be the program icon like the following image:

When making a double-click the program icon appears in the dialog of the installation, which looks like:

In this dialog box Winrar software installation, the only thing we should do for now is to click on the button that says Install and start the installation process, once the installation is done it displays the following screen:

In which default is already marked a number of options ( "to have such options as") in which you can specify file types that we associate with the compressor to keep the windows account. In my humble opinion I would leave as-is and simply pulsaría the OK button. Once you click on the following screen appears:

In which we confirmed that the program has been installed and we are reminded that the program is not free but we can use to complete the installation only has to press the Done button. The only drawback of not registering or purchasing the program is that a dialog appears when running the same which has been confirmed to be able to proceed with the action you want to do, I'll be known! Drawbacks shareware. 2. Step

Compressing files conWinRar

There are several ways to create a compressed file, so go slowly, do not be scared once learned the use of the program is very easy to use. The first way to create a compressed file would run the program WinRar to do this is to click on the Start button, which gives access to the Start menu and select the option that says Winrar, by placing this option appears a submenu in which you must make a click on the program Winrar. Clicking on this option presents the following screen:

As discussed above, if the program is an evaluation copy is displayed in a dialog box which warns us that an assessment is, to remove this dialog box, click on the "Close" button, pressing ends dialog box and can now create our archive. The first thing done is the folder navigation window that is displayed at the bottom of the program window, browse to the file or folder to compress marked with a click. Then to create our archive we have to click on the Add button located at the top of the window. Clicking this button displays the following dialog box:

In which we show only two things, first is the name of the compressed file in the box that says "File Name" and the second is to indicate where we want to create the compressed file to perform this action, click on the button " Consider, "which the press allows you to select the folder where you want to create the file. Once the two parameters just mentioned is click "OK." Finally, if you only have to check the file has been created at the site above. Another way to create a compressed file might be more comfortable and easy the next. We must first place in the folder where the file / folder to compress so it is located is selected objects you want to compress and make a click with the right mouse button on any of the selected objects. The following example shows how to compress an image file inside the folder Practicas2 using this method:

As you can see the menu that appears allows us to select an option called "Add", in which the program automatically assigns a name in this case is "Practicas2.rar", clicking on this option, the program creates in the compressor same folder where we placed a file named Practicas2.rar with all the files you have selected. Can only check the objects in the window to check that the file has been created. Personally I prefer this way of creating files compressed as it is very comfortable and then if the name of the file that the program automatically assigns I do not like, then change it with a new filename.

Unzip files conWinRar

Well, now we have the reverse, ie if we have or we send a compressed file, decompress the file you want to view its contents. Suppose you have submitted a file that is called ficherostexto.rar and this we have saved in a folder named Uncompress, we find a file as shown in the image below:

As you can see the compressed file has the characteristic of the program icon Winrar, which is a series of books tied with a belt. There are several possibilities when unzip the file. The first of these would make a double click on the file icon to open the program and to show us its contents, as shown in the picture below:

Once the program is open, we simply select or mark that we want to extract files or files so that they are marked as shown above, and then we click on the button at the top called Extract in, which presented in the dialog screen shown below:

In this dialog box to perform the single action is to select the folder where you want to unzip the files selected and click OK. The program will unzip the files into the folder and can be checked by visiting the folder to see if the original files.

Another option is perhaps more convenient to open the folder where is located the file and when you make it click with the right mouse button on the icon of the file appears in the same context menu. Observe the following picture:

By opening the context menu you can see several options concerning the program Winrar, the first one to consider seriously the option named Remove here, that the press unzip all the files contained in the compressed file in the current location, without asking anything more . A very convenient truth. Another possibility is to select the option that says Pull in NombreCarpeta / where nombrecarpeta usually the name of the file. This last option unzip all files in a folder named like the name of the file inside the folder where the original file, the following image shows the result of carrying out this latest action, as you can see is the original compressed file and a folder named as containing all the unzipped files:
